Wrigley's Airwaves sponsors Motorbase

MyTeamCar - Wrigley’s Airwaves has today announced a title sponsorship deal with Motorbase, which will see the newly renamed ‘Airwaves BMW’ team compete in the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The announcement was made ahead of tomorrow’s annual BTCC Media Day launch at the Rockingham circuit and sees Airwaves adding ‘Airwaves BMW’ to its existing motor sport sponsorships in the British Superbike Championship, as title sponsor of the Airwaves Yamaha team, and the FIA World Rally Championship, as the Official Chewing Gum and personal sponsor of British driver Matthew Wilson.

Drivers Robert Collard and Jonathan Adam will both be behind the wheel of the Airwaves-branded BMW 320si E90s, as the Kent-based team bids to build on a successful end to 2008, which saw it claim five trophies at the last round at Brands Hatch.

Toby Baker, Wrigley’s Marketing Director, said: “Airwaves is delighted to secure our sponsorship with Motorbase and we’re looking forward to a successful season for Airwaves BMW in 2009.

“Motor sport is a perfect brand fit for Airwaves and our ‘KICK UP A GEAR’ vision. The HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship is no different due to its adrenaline fuelled nature and exciting racing.

“The championship is one of the world’s longest established and most prestigious racing championships, with excellent media exposure opportunities, so we’re delighted to be involved.

“Airwaves BMW perfectly complements our existing deals in BSB and WRC and we’re excited about the possibilities and opportunities to work with the team, championship organisers and fans by continuing our proactive approach to sponsorship.”

David Bartrum, Airwaves BMW Team Principal, added: “We’re absolutely ecstatic to have secured such a hugely recognisable brand in Airwaves as our team sponsor.

“They have a proven record in motor sport and, with the tremendous end we had to 2008, we feel we have a superb chance of competing for race wins and podiums from the start of this season.

“We’re excited about the opportunities to work with a brand like Airwaves and are looking forward to demonstrating the value of Airwaves BMW both on and off the track to them.

“It’s great news for the championship that brands like Airwaves feel it is a place to be and we’re eager to impress as we continue to build a championship winning team.”
