Volvo looks to link up with Tan Chong
teamcar - Sweden-based truck maker AB Volvo is looking at forging cooperation with the local distributor of Nissan diesel vehicles, following its recent acquisition of a 13% stake in Japan-based Nissan Diesel Motor Co.
Executive vice-president Jorma Halonen said that as a new major shareholder in Nissan Diesel, the group was focusing on improving efficiency in the distribution network and after-sales of vehicles and how it could play a role in supporting the local distribution.
Nissan Diesel vehicles are assembled and distributed in Malaysia by Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd through a franchise arrangement.
Volvo, the world's number two truck maker, early this year bought the stake in Nissan Diesel for about US$195mil – with an option to buy up to 6% more – to strengthen its Asian operations.
