RON97 petrol will go up by 20 sen to RM2.90

05 May 2011 - According to Bernama, the price of RON97 fuel will be increased to RM2.90 per liter at midnight today, up 20 sen from the previous price of RM2.70 which was on the 1st of April 2011.

"The price of RON97 fluctuates as the Government has lifted the subsidy for this petrol," Malaysian Petrol Dealers Association president Datuk Hashim Othman said Wednesday when confirming the price increase.

The previous increase was a month ago. "The price of RON97 might go down in future, but this depends on the political situation in the Middle East as well as natural disasters," he added. On April 2, the price of RON97, which was floated according to the prevailing oil market price, rose by 20 sen to RM2.70 per litre due to the crisis in the Middle East.

If this trend continues, the price of RON97 would probably hit over RM3.00 per liter by the end of the year. This is the fifth monthly increase in a row since December last year. The margin of increase has also been going up, with the first three hikes being only 10 sen, with subsequent increases being 20 sen.

“But the price of RON95 and diesel remain unchanged,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
