Puspakom in hire purchase inspection deal

15 April 2011 - Following the recent amended Hire Purchase Act 1967, Puspakom Sdn Bhd has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism where they will undertake the hire purchase inspection services for vehicles.

Under the agreement, Puspakom and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism will collaborate and cooperate towards undertaking the inpsection services, DRB-HICOM said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia Wednesday.

"The parties shall undertake the necessary steps to provide technical cooperation in various areas, among others, including the scope on inspection, method, preparation of inspection report, equipment and inspection facilities, training and investigation," it said.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at the MoU signing that starting from June, all second-hand, refurbished and modified motorised vehicles will be required to undergo inspection at Puspakom before they are allowed to be sold.

"Under the amendment, all used vehicles should go through several phases of inspection to ensure they are roadworthy."
