New Daihatsu Move 2011 unveiled in Japan

25 December 2010 - The all-new, fifth-generation Daihatsu Move has been unveiled in Japan. The second-generation Move was the model on which the Perodua Kenari was based, so the new Move introduced here could one day be popularised in Malaysia just like the Kenari.

Designed from scratch, the new Move is said to feature the most fuel-efficient petrol engine—capable of returning 27.0 km/litre—available in Japan. Paired to a CVT gearbox, the second-generation 660 cc KF engine produces 52 hp and 60 Nm, with the power driving either the front wheels or all four wheels.

More notable than its power output are the technologies embedded in the small engine, which include a start-stop system, a plastic electronic throttle body and the world’s first i-EGR (i-Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system that monitors the combustion state through the use of ions.

Making the fuel consumption claim possible is the new Move’s 685 kg kerb weight, which is 35 kg less than before due to weight saving in the instrument panel, door trim, transmission and other components.
